French Authorities Launch Probe Into Worldcoin Over Data Collection Practices
The French privacy regulator CNIL has initiated a probe into Worldcoin due to questions about the legality of its data collection and storage practices. The watchdog is working together with its German counterpart, which directly oversees the project as its primary European regulator. In addition, the project is being investigated in the United Kingdom for similar reasons.
Questions About Legality Of Data Collection And Storage Practices
The legitimacy of Worldcoin’s data collection activities has been called into question by CNIL, who stated that “the legality of this collection seems questionable, as do the conditions for storing biometric data”. As such, an investigation has been launched to look into these matters further.
Worldcoin Foundation Complies With All Laws And Regulations
In response to these investigations, Worldcoin Foundation told CryptoSlate via email that they are dedicated to complying with all applicable laws and regulations governing their processing of personal data. They have made it clear that they take their responsibility towards protecting user’s rights seriously and will continue to do so throughout this process.
UK Investigation Launched Into Similar Matters
As well as France and Germany launching investigations into Worldcoin’s practices, there is also an ongoing investigation in the United Kingdom for similar reasons relating to their data collection activities and storage methods. This comes after numerous complaints were made by concerned citizens regarding potential violations of their privacy rights and other related issues raised due to how they handle user data on a daily basis.
CNIL Collaborating With German Counterpart For Investigation
