Lillian Dean
Writing Competition

The Lillian Dean Writing Competition is a FIRST PAGE writing contest. Agents and editors will not turn the page if the story doesn’t intrigue them. Grab their attention and hook them with something different. Whether it’s your voice, word choice, imagery, setting and/or characters, your writing should WOW readers and make them want to turn the page. Stories are blind-judged on the following criteria: effectiveness of “hook”, establishment of setting, emotional investment in character, creativity/use of language, voice, organization/flow, and originality of idea.

Sue McGinty serves as this year's contest coordinator.
She is a former computer programmer in the Southern California aerospace industry and technical writer for McGraw-Hill. Sue has written freelance articles for local publications, including the Tribune. Her short fiction has been featured in three Central Coast Mystery Writer anthologies. She is treasurer of the local chapter of Sisters in Crime, an international organization of mystery writers and readers. Murder in Los Lobos is her first mystery novel.
See Sue’s Web site at www.suemcginty.com.
