sustainability and water-conservation in mind. Through
slides and handouts, the course will focus on defining your
landscape needs and incorporating the principles of

Green in Your Garden
Going
“Green” in your garden looks at the energy and resource
inputs and outputs around our homes and focuses on the ways
that we can minimize them. This course covers composting and
mulching to build and maintain healthy soil, creating
wildlife habitats that attract birds, butterflies,
beneficial insects, and managing pests and weeds the least
toxic way.

Irrigation 101
Drip
irrigation saves water, time, and effort! Learn how to
design, build, and operate water-saving drip systems. The
course will also cover retrofitting sprinkler systems on
non-grass areas to drip and drip irrigation for containers

Systems & Lawn Irrigation 101

50% of the water used in the North County is used for
landscape irrigation, which places significant stress on
limited water resources. This course focuses on the design
and maintenance principles of overhead sprinklers and
irrigation controller programming, and provides the
information needed to more efficiently operate landscape
irrigation systems.

Plants for North County Landscapes

a greater understanding of our local plant ecosystems, we
will identify the native plants that will be successful, as
