The Science & Data of Global Warming Lecture Series
(SLO & NCC)
Cuesta College Community Programs is hosting a free public
lecture series on “The Science and Data of Global Warming,”
at both the San Luis Obispo and North County Campuses
throughout October.
The public lectures will feature Dr.
Ray Weymann, an Atascadero resident and retired
astrophysicist with 40 years of experience teaching and
researching at major universities and observatories. His
research has included varied topics from the history of the
early expanding universe to the atmosphere of stars. His
research includes calculations and observations made with
some of the world’s most powerful telescopes, including the
Hubble Space Telescope.
The first three lectures in the series
will focus on the complexity and major factors influencing
the climate and global warming. The final evening of the
lecture series will be a panel discussion regarding
responses to global warming and will be facilitated by the
League of Women Voters. The panel will include Dr. Weymann,
Andrea Pease, an architect that owns Build It Green
Consulting, Elizabeth Apfelberg, a high school math and
science teacher and president of the San Luis Obispo Mothers
for Peace, Jane Swanson, a 38-year member of San Luis Obispo
Mothers for Peace, and Ken Haggard, a green architect with
more than 30 years experience.
This series is FREE
and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.
