Adobe
Acrobat 9 Intro
Everybody knows what a PDF document is, right? It's a file that you
print. If that's all you've seen Acrobat do, you're in for a huge
surprise! In this course, you'll discover how to bring together a wide
range of content from dozens of programs that you can reuse and
customize in Acrobat 9 Pro. Need to change some text? No problem. Create
a new file? That's easy. Add a page from this file and an image from
that file? Not a big deal. This software allows you to do all that and
more! Bringing together content is just the beginning. You'll work with
many features, such as backgrounds and bookmarks, to help unify your
documents and add navigation to guide your users. You'll see how to
protect your work using password security. For the grand finale, you'll
discover how to wrap a set of PDF files (and other documents, too) into
a PDF Portfolio, complete with a Flash interface and display features.
Have you ever sent a document to a few people for feedback and then had
to wait for replies? You probably had to send reminders, and maybe you
even missed a deadline. If so, you'll be amazed at how the collaboration
tools in Acrobat help you conduct, control, and manage the document
review process. You'll even find out how to work in real-time using a
chat window in Acrobat 9 Pro or online using a free Web conferencing
room. This course will also give you a taste of how Acrobat 9 Pro uses
artificial intelligence to automatically find and configure fields on a
page to convert to a form. It may sound complicated, but you'll be
surprised at how simple it is! Then you can use form tracking features
to send your form to others to fill in and send back to you, collect the
data automatically, and zero in on results using filters and sorts. You
can even send the results to a spreadsheet if you like. Throughout the
lessons, you'll see why Adobe Acrobat has become the best-selling Adobe
software of all time. You won't find instructions that show you how to
complete meaningless exercises. Instead, each lesson works with an
important Acrobat 9 Pro feature or process. Along with guidance for
using the features, you'll learn how to use the program for your own
work and communication needs, and you'll discover just how much you can
do with PDF documents! REQUIREMENTS:
Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
Windows or Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Windows or Vista. Adobe Acrobat
9 Pro Mac (either as a standalone product, or as part of an Adobe CS4
collection) and Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11), Leopard (10.5.x), or Mac OS X
Intel; Internet access, e-mail, the Microsoft Internet Explorer or
Mozilla Firefox Web browser. Note: Acrobat 9 Pro software must be
installed and fully operational before the course begins. Microsoft
Office programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, and Adobe
Creative Suite programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe
Illustrator CS4 are used in preparation of the course materials,
although they aren't necessary to complete the course. Access to these
programs is useful for personal project development.

Ajax
Programming Intro
Transform the way your Web applications look and feel! With Ajax
programming, you can create applications that provide levels of
responsiveness previously unheard of on the Web. In fact, you can use
Ajax to develop Web applications that behave and respond just like
desktop applications. In this course, you'll learn each of the
technologies that Ajax is composed of. We'll spend several lessons
digging into JavaScript, a programming language essential to Ajax.
You’ll discover the wonders of the Document Object Model (DOM),
cascading style sheets (CSS), the XMLHttpRequest object, extensible
markup language (XML), and PHP scripting. Together, these technologies
are what give Ajax its power. Along with every lesson is a project
application that we'll create together. Each application will give you
hands-on practice with the technologies you'll be learning. By the time
the course is finished, you'll be able to create your own Ajax
applications to give your Web site faster and more streamlined
functionality. Also, since Ajax skills are highly prized, you will be in
a great position to begin a new career as an Ajax programmer.
REQUIREMENTS:

Alice
2.0 Programming Intro
Alice was designed to
teach object-oriented principles to novice programmers, all while helping
them to create exciting, three-dimensional worlds for animations and
games. This course will show you how to create programs that use basic
programming concepts like variables, decisions, events, loops, and arrays.
The best part is that you'll be able to learn and practice these
techniques while creating programs in a three-dimensional world. This
makes programming more fun and easier to learn. By the end of the course,
you'll be able to make interesting three-dimensional worlds that your
audience can view like movies or play like interactive video games. You'll
also be able to take the concepts you've learned here and apply them to
other object-oriented languages like Java, C++, C#, or Visual Basic.

object oriented programming, with plenty of vivid, real-life examples.
Then, you'll gain hands-on experience with sequential data files, and
you'll be able to build a professional-looking and intuitive Graphical
User Interface (GUI) application on your very own computer. Because
there is no better way to learn programming than hands-on practice,
almost every lesson includes practical examples and assignments you can
use to develop your knowledge of programming. Learn to program the right
way: by using a state-of-the-art language to build impressive
applications on your schedule and on your very own computer.

C# Programming
Intermediate
Build upon your current knowledge of programming logic by writing
Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications in the C# programming
language. This course will show you how to write professional looking
applications with many of the common GUI controls, such as buttons,
labels, text boxes, check boxes, and radio buttons. You'll also learn
how to put menus and toolbars into your program to make them easier to

C++ Programming
Intro
Learn how to
program in C++ from a master programming instructor and published author.
In this project-oriented course, you'll skip all the gobbledygook and get
right to programming--even if you have no prior programming experience!
Before you know it, you'll be putting together programs that have their
own windows and controls, and you'll see how easy programming really is.
In the course, you'll see how the world around us is built up by
objects--things that have qualities and capabilities, and you'll explore
how you can take that information and write a computer program that models
the world around us. You'll then see that this is the actual technique
that professional programmers use to build their programs. By the end of
the course, you'll be using Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition to
write real programs for Microsoft Windows.
REQUIREMENTS:
Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, XP, or Vista,
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition (free Express edition can
be downloaded from Microsoft), Internet access, e-mail, the Microsoft
Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web browser, and the

Comp TIA A+ Certification Prep, Basic
Time
to roll up those sleeves and dive inside the personal computer! The Basic
A+ Certification Prep course teaches you about the hardware common to
virtually every personal computer - including microprocessors, RAM, power
supplies, motherboards, BIOS, CMOS, the expansion bus, floppy drives, and
hard drives. You'll learn how things work, how to configure everything,
and how to troubleshoot in real world environments. This class gives you
the knowledge upon which you'll base the rest of your A+ Certification
studies and helps you take that first step to becoming an excellent PC
hardware technician. So what are you waiting for?!?
REQUIREMENTS:
A
solid conceptual and practical knowledge of Windows 2000 or XP and
preferably some experience with Windows 98 or ME; Internet access,
e-mail, the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web browser,
and the
Adobe Flash and
PDF plug-ins (two free and simple downloads you obtain at
http://www.adobe.com/downloads by clicking Get Adobe Flash Player
and Get Adobe Reader). It's also recommended that you have a PC that you
can take apart and put back together again. This can be anything from an
ancient Intel 286 to a newer 486 or beyond. Because of the dangers of
electro-static discharge (to the machine, not the student), we do
not require you to tear apart your own primary computer. This is,
however, a class that trains you to be a hardware technician - having a
machine to play with greatly helps your learning.

Comp TIA A+ Certification Prep Intermediate
The
Intermediate CompTIA A+ Certification Prep course picks up where the
Basic course left off, taking you right into the PC. You’ll start with
detailed information on installing and configuring hard drives and
removable drives, and then spend the rest of the course knee-deep in
Windows. You’ll learn about the operating system from installation to
operations, maintenance to troubleshooting. The course finishes with an
in-depth look into installing, configuring, maintaining, and
troubleshooting printers. This course takes you through the second of
the three steps you need to become both a highly competent PC tech and a
CompTIA A+ certified technician, 2006 style.
REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of
the Basic CompTIA A+ Certification Prep course; Internet access, e-mail,
the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web browser, and the
Adobe Flash
and
PDF
plug-ins (two free and
simple downloads you obtain at

by clicking Get Adobe Flash Player and Get
Adobe Reader), access to a PC running Windows 9x, and a PC running
Windows 2000 or XP, so that you can learn the subtle (and not-so-subtle)
differences between these two families of Windows. Although this course
focuses on operating systems, you should have access to a hard drive
that you can install, format, and partition, and to a couple of Plug and
Play devices that you can practice installing. Because of the dangers of
electro-static discharge
(to the machine, not the student), we do not require you to tear apart
your own primary computer (and definitely do not recommend that you
format or partition your primary hard drive!).

Flash CS4 Intro
Begin your career as a
Flash designer! In this course, you'll learn how to create animated,
interactive movies in Flash CS4. These days, Flash movies appear just
about everywhere—the Web, the cinema, TV shows and commercials, computer
games, and the list goes on. The skills you'll learn in this course will
get you started on your way to a rewarding career designing animated
graphics and special effects for one of these fun and exciting fields.
Together, we'll develop a fully-functioning Flash application, complete
with animation, graphics, and interactive buttons. We'll start by
getting familiar with the Flash workspace, creating text and graphics,
and animating objects on the Flash movie stage. Then, we'll look in
detail at the anatomy of a Flash movie, including how to use the Flash
timeline, layers, and frames to control objects and timing on the stage.
While you can produce an entire movie in the Flash software, you'll
often need to import graphics, sounds, and digital videos from other
applications. As you create your first Flash movie, you'll learn how to
format and embed external digital media and how to make them appear or
play at specific times. We'll also look at how to control digital media
based on specific events, such as end-user mouse clicks. No course on
Flash is complete without an introduction to ActionScript,
Flash's powerful programming language. So we'll jump into ActionScript
3.0 by creating interactive buttons. You'll also learn to write scripts
that control movie flow as well as scripts that call to and load
external videos, Web pages, and other Flash movie files. As we develop
our movie, we'll practice making and animating 3-D objects, syncing
sounds with animations, and publishing Flash movies to the Web. By the
end of the course, you'll know how to use the Adobe Flash CS4 software
to create and publish movies and applications, and you'll be well on
your way to becoming a Flash designer!
REQUIREMENTS:
Adobe Flash Pro CS4
Windows or Adobe Flash Pro Mac, Adobe Flash Pro CS4 Windows Upgrade or
Adobe Flash Pro Mac Upgrade, or any Adobe Creative Suite bundle
containing Adobe Flash CS4 are all acceptable (software must be

MS
Office 2007, What's New?
In
this course, you'll learn how to use the new features of Microsoft
Office 2007. Through easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions, you'll
get comfortable creating Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint
presentations, and an Access database. On the surface, MS Office 2007
looks a lot different than previous versions (no more menus or
toolbars!), but by learning to understand the dramatically changed,
Ribbon-based interface, you'll quickly get back on the road to
productivity.
In each program, we'll take a quick tour that shows you how to perform
the most common everyday tasks. You'll work with a flier, a budget, a
funding presentation, and an inventory database--all things you might
need to produce in real life. And as you start to feel at home with the
Ribbon and tabs, you'll find that underneath that shiny new dashboard,
many "nuts and bolts" of the programs aren't really all that different
than before! In Word, you'll learn about QuickStyles and other ways to
apply automatic formatting to your documents. You'll insert
professional-looking graphics like text boxes and SmartArt. You'll use
the new document themes--sets of delicious colors and matching fonts
that will make you feel like a graphic designer! In Excel, you'll use
handy cell styles to quickly format your worksheets.
You'll see how the new Page Layout view lets you work with your
spreadsheets more easily. You'll customize great-looking Excel chart
designs to make them totally your own with special effects like
reflections, shadows, and WordArt. And you'll
see how the Excel list feature lets you handle columnar data like name
and address lists. In PowerPoint, we'll explore new text and graphics
features that will take your presentations to a new level. You'll use
charts and diagrams to make your important points. And you'll really
enjoy special formatting features that can make your presentations
shine. Custom backgrounds plus slide show animations and transitions
will get your audience's attention and keep it! In Access, you'll find
out how simple it is to create databases by using field templates and

MS
Word 2007 Intermediate
Microsoft Word 2007 is a powerful and popular program, yet most people
use only a fraction of its features. In this course, you'll learn
Microsoft Word's more advanced features, which can make writing easier,
faster, and more fun. You'll improve your creativity and efficiency at
the same time! In the first part of the course, you'll see how to
perform a mail merge, and we'll explore macros, styles, and templates.
Macros let you type repetitive words and phrases quickly and accurately
at the touch of a button. Styles let you save text formatting. Templates
let you create documents that contain predefined formatting and text,
making it a snap to create documents that look right every time. In the
second part of the course, we'll cover how to use Word as a simple
desktop publishing program to create signs, flyers, menus, brochures,
and even newsletters. You'll learn how to insert different types of
graphics in a document including digital photographs from your own
camera, clip art images provided by Microsoft, and different types of
charts such as bar, line, or pie charts. Next, you'll find out how to
wrap text around graphic images and divide a page into columns and text
boxes. Both columns and text boxes give you different ways to display
text beyond the traditional appearance of text that fills an entire
page. Finally, in the last part of this course, you'll learn about
printing labels, making form letters, and creating an index, table of
contents, and list of figures automatically. If you need to create long
documents, you'll appreciate Word's ability to keep track of page
numbers for your chapter headings or index entries.
Whether you need to produce a short letter, flyer, report, or
book-length manuscript, this course will teach you how to get the most
out of Microsoft Word 2007!
REQUIREMENTS:
Microsoft Word 2007 or Microsoft Office 2007 (any edition) are all
acceptable (software must be installed and fully operational before the
course begins); Microsoft Windows XP or Vista; Internet access, e-mail,

PC Security, Advanced
When
is hacking legal? When you use it to secure your own network. This new
method of hacking, called ethical hacking or white-hat hacking,
uses common and readily available hacking tools and techniques to audit
your network so you can locate and close security holes. Whether you're
running a small home network or you're an enterprise network
administrator, this course will teach you how to better protect your
system against those who wish to gain unauthorized access. You'll gain
an understanding of the complex method of electronic breaking and
entering. You'll learn the terms and programming behind the interaction
between hardware and software when communicating through a network.
You'll follow packets of data from one point to another through an
entire network, and find out where the flaws exist for data loss and
security breaches. You'll discover the role of the seven layers of the
OSI model, and the dependencies of hardware and software interaction
through packet transmission. And you'll find out how private data can
quickly become public knowledge. Hackers are costing businesses around
the globe several billions of dollars every year. Don't become part of
that sad statistic. Sooner or later, you know that somebody is going to
try and break into your network. Why not learn how hackers think so you
can harden your defenses against them?
REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of Debbie Mahler's online Introduction to PC Security
course (or equivalent experience), or completion of David Iseminger's
online Introduction to Networking course (or equivalent
experience). You must be familiar with PC and networking terminology and

Ruby
Programming Intro
Learn
how to create an interactive Web blog that allows visitors to register
and post articles and comments. You'll see how to use the Ruby on Rails
framework environment to create a full-featured Web blog using the Ruby
programming language and the MySQL database server. We'll walk through
the development of a complete Web blog application. During the course,
you'll see step-by-step how to create all of the software and database
objects used in the application. We'll begin by looking at exactly what
the Ruby programming language is. Ruby has taken the Web world by storm,
providing an object-oriented approach to Web programming. Its simplicity
and user-friendliness make it ideal for beginning programmers to use to
dive into the world of dynamic Web sites. After going through the basics
of Ruby programming, we'll turn to the Ruby on Rails framework
environment. Ruby on Rails is a relatively new, but already very
popular, player in the world of dynamic Web sites. We'll go through the
steps of creating the Ruby on Rails framework and then modifying that
framework with Ruby programming to customize your Web site just the way
you want it. At the end of this course, you'll be able to use the
techniques you've learned to build and customize your own dynamic Web
application.
REQUIREMENTS:
A Ruby
on Rails software development environment is required for this course.
The first lesson walks through installing the InstantRails software
package, which provides a complete Ruby on Rails development
environment, including the Apache Web server and MySQL database server,
for the Windows platform. InstantRails can be downloaded from
instantrails.rubyforge.org; You must have a Windows NT, Windows
2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista workstation or server to install the
InstantRails software.
Please note that
InstantRails does not work on Windows 95, Windows 98, nor Windows Me.
Students using the Macintosh platform may be able to use the default
Ruby environment included on Macintosh OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5
(Leopard). Please consult the Apple Web site for instructions on how to
update the installed software to the latest version of Ruby on Rails;
Prior HTML coding experience is helpful, but not required; Internet
access, e-mail, the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web
browser, and the
Adobe Flash and
PDF plug-ins (two free and simple downloads you obtain at
http://www.adobe.com/downloads by clicking Get Adobe Flash Player
and Get Adobe Reader).

Visual Basic 2005
Intro
Visual Basic is the most widely used programming language for creating
Windows applications. Why? It's very easy to learn because it uses
keywords that closely resemble the English language, while other
programming languages require memorization of commands that bear no
resemblance to English. Another reason for Visual Basic's popularity is
its development environment, Visual Basic 2005, which enables you to
rapidly build Windows applications. Creating a Windows application
ordinarily requires you to write lengthy and complex code. But Visual
Basic 2005 relieves you of this task. Instead, it enables you to create
the application and its components literally with the click of a button
or menu item. It even writes all of the necessary code to get the
application started for you. You can view and even fine-tune the code,
but it spares you a lot of the grunt work. While Visual Basic 2005 helps
you write a Windows application, you still need to write code and be
able to plan your application. This course will show you how. You'll
learn the building blocks of programming, including using variables,
control structures, and loops. You'll find out how to use the large
function library built into Visual Basic 2005, including the .NET
Framework, as well as how to write and use your own functions. You'll
learn how to use the large and varied library of controls Windows
offers. And you'll learn how to access files and handle errors. Since
Windows applications are event-driven and everything in Visual Basic
2005 is treated as a programmable object, you'll also learn about
event-driven and object-oriented programming, concepts important not
just in Visual Basic, but also in other programming languages you may
want to learn in the future.
REQUIREMENTS:
Visual Basic 2005 (free Express version can be downloaded from
Microsoft); Internet access, e-mail, the Microsoft Internet Explorer or
Mozilla Firefox Web browser, and the
Adobe Flash and
PDF plug-ins (two free and simple downloads you obtain at
http://www.adobe.com/downloads by clicking Get Adobe Flash Player

computer before the course begins.
