Biographies
Bea, Jaime
& English, Ted
- Jaime Bea and Ted
English have extensive experience and background. Jamie Bea
comes from a family that has a cousin who won a silver medal
for rowing at the Sydney Olympics. Jamie is a former women’s
coach of Cal Poly Rowing Team and has 4 years of collegiate
rowing experience at UC San Diego.
Blair,
Rusty - He has been Camp Coordinator since 1994
and has been a regular staff member of the camps since the
1970’s. Rusty comes to us with his head coach experience
from Cuesta College Men’s basketball team since 1992. In
1997, 1998 and 1999, he guided the Cougars to consecutive
Western State Conference titles. He was the W.S.C. Coach of
the Year after both 1997 and 1998. Rusty came to Cuesta after
an extensive playing and coaching career. He earned his
undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and his
Master's and teaching credential from Cal Poly San Luis
Obispo.
Cabalka,
Shawn - He has a MS degree in Physical
Education and is a VSPTA trained instructor. Has worked at
Santa Barbara and Stanford tennis camps and worked with tennis
greats Dick Gould, Greg Patton, Hugh Breau and Kevin Brady.
Head Pro at Ambassador Tennis and Health club in downtown Los
Angeles in the early 80s.
Carter-Towle,
Megan - She
is a US Polo
Association Certified Umpire and is the coach of the Cal
Poly Polo Team. Megan is the owner/manager of Central Coast
Polo Club and has been involved with Polo since 1992. The
Central Coast Polo Club offers polo lessons, horse rentals,
weekly scrimmages and the club participates in circuit
tournaments with California Polo Club, Centaur Polo Club,
Fair Hills Polo Club, and Will Rogers Polo Club.
Cleere, Scott
- His passion for tennis is reflected by his participation in local
tournaments, his role as the USTA Local League Coordinator and
the owner of Creative Athletics. He brings a wealth of
experience to the lifetime sport of tennis.
Duffy,
Eoin - He has been sailing since 1968. He is an
American Sailing Association Certified Instructor and has
taught sailing and navigation at the California Sailing
Academy in Marina del Rey and in Europe at Les Glenans, the
French based sailing school. Eoin has also raced at the club,
and at the
national and international level in Ireland and Great Britain
and has extensive cruising experience as
well.
Erikat,
Joe - He
has been playing volleyball
since 1983 and has injured nearly every part of his body in
the process. He plays volleyball seasonally indoors and
year-round at the beach.
Goughnour,
Alisa - She
has been certified in the fitness industry for over twenty
years and teaches a number of group exercise formats
including aqua aerobics, body sculpt, cycling, and weight
training.
Harbottle, Doug - He
has been coaching HS and Club Volleyball since 1977 and is a
certified CAP Level 1 coach. He is a staff coach for Long
Beach State Skills/Setters Summer Camp and Cuesta Summer Camp
and was a volunteer assistant at Long Beach State in 1992 for
the Volleyball Skills Development Videos.
Hassey,
Kim - Her
teaching philosophy is to have fun while learning in a
healthy atmosphere. She is a great motivator and emphasizes
the importance of good sportsmanship. She has 11 years of
tennis experience.
Hassey,
Roberto - He is a dedicated tennis professional
for the last thirty-five years. He currently holds the title
of USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association)
Professional 1, the highest teaching category for this
esteemed professional association, and is on the Prince Sports
Group Advisory Staff. He trains all camp
instructors.
Hayes, Jason
- Currently one of the golf
professionals at Sea Pines Golf Resort, has been a dedicated
player for 24 years. Jason has been a member of the PGA Golf
Professional Training Program for 6 years and continues the
program to improve his teaching techniques.
Mascia, Davide
- He is a dedicated international
tennis player, professional, and coach for the last 25
years. He currently holds the title of PTR Professional 1,
the highest teaching category for this professional
association. He has coached several international and US
players from this area over the last 8 years. Mr. Mascia is
sponsored by Head Tennis.
McDonough,
Shaun - He has been playing since 1983 and has
8 years experience coaching girls junior varsity and SLO
Coastal boys volleyball clubs. Shaun has also coached at Morro
Bay and SLO High Schools and Cuesta College Community Programs
Adult Recreation.
Miller,
Bob
- Head Coach Bob
Miller begins his sixth season at the helm of the Cuesta
College Baseball Program. The Cougars have advanced into the
playoffs in all five seasons and have won three Western
States Conference Titles. More importantly, 42 players have
moved on to study and play at the four year level.
Moreno,
Heather
- She
is the President of PeopleFit USA and author of
the book Achieving Physical Wealth: 8 Simple Steps for
Breaking the Rules of Staying Fit. Heather
specializes in working with busy professionals, helping them
to look good and feel great without the guilt and pressure
of traditional diet and exercise programs.
She is
certified by the American College of Sports Medicine and
American Council on Exercise, and she was recognized as the
2003 Coach of the Year by the Association of Fitness by
Phone Coaches.
Nystrom,
Roche - She has been coordinating the popular
youth volleyball camps for several years. Roche has been a
member of the Cuesta College volleyball coaching staff since
1984, serving as assistant coach before taking over head
coaching duties in 1993. She has lead Cuesta College to four
Western State Conference titles in her tenure. Roche earned
her undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Fresno
State in 1984 and completed her Master's degree at nearby Cal
Poly.
Payne,
Tamara - She has played volleyball since
1976. She is an avid volleyball player and has played
competitively in tournaments throughout the state and has
participated in indoor and outdoor volleyball camps and
leagues. Tamara has experience in coaching high school teams,
as well as teaching youth and adult classes.
Samaniego, Michael
- He has over 30 years of
golf experience that encompasses high and community amateur
golf competition. Michael is an assistant golf professional
as Sea Pines Golf Resort, is working towards a full membership
with the PGA of America, and the Men’s and Junior Golf
instructor and Assistant Golf Coach at Mission College
Preparatory High School.
Setting,
Gary - He is a PGA qualifying
participant and a member of the PGA of America. He has been
a golf instructor since 1990 and the Setting family has
owned and operated Sea Pines Golf Resort since 1982. Other
instructors consist of three high school golf coaches,
including one female. It is a great family facility to
develop and learn the skill of golf.
Shirey, Robert
- He is a
Class “A” member of the PGA of America.
Vegher,
Jim - He has been involved with Cuesta College
Basketball Hoop Camps since 1975 and coordinator of the Coed
6-11 year old Hoop Camp since 1999. He also coached Varsity
Basketball at San Luis High School from 1975-1988.
Von
Rauner, Vladimir - He has been playing since
1985 and loves playing volleyball anywhere…indoor, grass or
sand/beach. Vladimir has a 1999 Bronze Medal for the National
Senior Games, Orlando, Florida; a 1999 Silver Medal for 2-Man
Beach Play, San Diego, California; and has a 2001 Silver Medal
and a 2003 Bronze Medal for the Senior Games, St. George, Utah. Vladimir is
currently playing in tournaments for Orange County Spikers.

Wheaton,
John - He has been a dance professional for a
decade and a half traveling around the U.S. as a Dance
Judge, Teacher, or MC at various dance conventions, contests,
and workshops. In 1995 he was elected to the Advisory Board of the Golden State Dance Teachers
Association. In 1999 he was elected to the Board of Governors
of the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame.
John is also the event director of the Monterey Swingfest,
Jack & Jill O'Rama in Anaheim and the Halloween Swingthing
in Irvine.
World Instructor Training Schools - The World

instructors have a degree
directly related in the health and fitness field such as an
Athletic Trainer; Certified and/or a, 3 year minimum
certified personal trainer or group exercise instructor. (At
least 3 years experience).”
