Interactive Theater in the Renaissance Faire Style
This class emphasizes the acting and interacting techniques of performing at Renaissance festivals and historical re-enactment events.  Students will learn the techniques of Character Research and Development, Basic Faire Accent, Improvisational Techniques, Garb Development, Faire Gigs, Historical Research and History and Background of the Renaissance Faire. This class is open to anyone interested in performing at Renaissance Festivals throughout CaliforniaA materials fee of $10 will be collected by the instructor the first day of class.

Possible Festivals include Central Coast Renaissance Festival (July 19-20) and Golden Gate Renaissance Festival (August 23-24).

Vocal Music of the Renaissance: Merryweather's Madrigals
Explore the vocal music of the Renaissance and how it was used in the Royal Court, Church and for common enjoyment. This class is open to singers and instrumentalists interested in singing and playing music at the Central Coast Renaissance Festival (July 19 & 20) and the Golden Gate Renaissance Festival (August 23 & 24) Possible festivals include Ojai Pirate Festival (Sep 20-21 & 27-28) and the Annual Winter Holiday Season (December). A materials fee of $10 will be collected by the instructor the first day of class. Students should have vocal experience and are encouraged to know how to read music. All music will be provided.

Songwriting Workshop Series (All Instruments)
Think you can write better songs than what you hear on the radio? This series will focus on the basics of putting words and imagery to song, tapping into your own writing abilities, learning to edit and improve existing material and getting past creative blocks. Those with and without instruments welcome. Each session will culminate in a group performance for all those interested. Take one month to see if this is for you-then sign up for series for more experience and instruction.

Harp Series (with Jennifer Sayre)
The Harp Series includes all skills and practice outlined in Harp I, II, III but saves students money. Students will learn songs each week. No previous musical experience required.

Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy Adults & Teens (Age 13 - Adult)
Have you ever wanted to learn the guitar, but simply find it difficult to find the time? In just a few hours you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won't have to take private lessons to do it. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Fee includes workbook and practice DVD.  Bring your acoustic guitar. A $25 materials fee for workbook and practice CD will be collected by the instructor at the beginning of the workshop.

Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People
Some music teachers may not want you to know this, but you don’t need years of weekly lessons to learn piano.  In just a few hours, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment.  How do we do it?  While regular piano teachers teach note reading, piano professionals use chords, you can learn all the chords you’ll need to play any song in this one session. Total beginners can request a free pamphlet by sending a SASE to Innovative Keyboard Instruction, 2841 S. How to Play Piano by Ear
Learn one of music’s deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings, and transposing-all expressed in everyday language. This is an ideal follow-up to the “Instant Piano” class and is open to anyone who has a basic understanding of chords on any instrument. Expand your musical horizons, and free yourself from sheet-music dependence, and be the life of the party! Prior experience with chords recommended. Materials fee of $26 for the How to Play Piano by Ear Book and practice CD will be collected in class by the instructor.

              How to find the starting note
              How to determine when chords change
              How to predict the chord progression
              How chords help you find the correct melody
              How the melody helps you find the correct chords

Healthy Harmonica
Breathing is our foundation when playing the harmonica. We will take the simplest of pop, folk, and blues melodies and invigorate them with simple, but powerful, techniques to make any song deeply expressive. No previous ability to read or play music – only a desire to have fun and feel more alive!  Students need a "C" major diatonic harmonica: bring your own or purchase one in class for $11.

Beginning Blues Harmonica
Got da' Blues? This course gets you jamming the blues immediately! Emphasis is on playing and having fun as you are introduced to tricks and techniques to make the harmonica cry, laugh, wail, and scream. No previous musical experience or harmonica training is required only a love of the blues and desire to play the harmonica.

Students need a "C" major diatonic harmonica: bring your own or purchase one in class for $11. CD's and handouts are included in a $14 materials fee collected by the instructor at class.
