Making a Scene: An Intro to Opera I
This class is an introduction for those interested in opera, both beginners and those with some experience of the genre. Students will learn about the special vocabulary associated with opera, including the instructor’s tried and true 15-word list of Italian terms central to opera plots. Music and social conventions of opera demonstrated in specific examples will be explored, with attention to their role in conveying a “dramma per musica”…a drama conveyed through music.
