Instructor Biographies
Allebe, Adrienne
Adrienne Allebe received a BA in Painting from the University of
California, Santa Barbara and an MFA in Illustration from California
State University, Long Beach. After living in Long Beach for four years
during her graduate studies, Adrienne moved back to the Central Coast
where she currently works as an artist and teaches drawing, design and
painting classes at Cuesta College, Allan Hancock College and Cal Poly,
San Luis Obispo.
Andrews-Scott,
Julie
-
Julie Andrews-Scott has been a nutrition educator for the
community in San Luis Obispo County for 15 years
implementing nutrition, cooking, gardening, and wellness
bilingual classes for preschoolers to seniors, students,
staff, and parents. She received her B.S in Nutritional
Science in 1996 from Cal Poly, and a M.S. in the Cultural
Aspects of Food Systems emphasizing sustainability in
agriculture, nutrition, and tourism in Mediterranean and
Mexican cultures. She has started over 50 gardens and
wellness programs for schools and organizations in nine
counties, founded the Avila Fish & Farmers’ Market, Grover
Beach Farmers’ Market, and has developed food, spa, and
agritourism tours in the Mediterranean.
Archuleta,
Margaret - Margaret
Archuleta is a professional artist
specializing in murals and portraiture. She has taught students since
1998, specializing in fine art. She has taught at The Art Center in San
Luis Obispo, Atascadero Department of Parks and Recreation, Atascadero
Unified School District, Children's Creative Project, San Luis Obispo
County Office of Education, Youth Arts Activity Center, and College for
Kids since 1999.

Bryan, Erin -
Erin has taught Spanish in local, middle and high schools since 2005.
She has lived in Costa Rica and traveled throughout Central and South
America. Erin has a Master’s Degree in Education. She has coached both
boys and girls sports at Morro Bay and Arroyo Grande High Schools. Erin
was also a Varsity, 3 sport, scholar athlete in Washington State.
Burchmore, Heather -
Heather
Burchmore worked with at-risk youth
through Angel Gate Academy as a computer lab assistant and substitute
instructor during 1997-2002. She is also a graduate of the California
Culinary Academy, San Francisco and has run her own catering business
since 2003. Heather has worked with the College for Kids program as an
instructor since 2001.
Fay, Tim -
Tim Fay is a
part time welding instructor at Cuesta College and full time
industrial arts instructor at San Luis High School, where he
teaches Welding and Engineering Drawing. After taking a
welding class at his Alma Mater, Morro Bay High School, Tim
continued his education at Cuesta College where he took
general education classes as well as welding classes. He
then transferred to Cal Poly where he studied Engineering
and received a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology.
Tim is very passionate about welding and enjoys sharing his
welding knowledge with the younger generation.
Hoffman, Barbara -
Barbara G. Hoffman
has worked with kids since 1990 as a classroom teacher and a
tutor. She taught creative writing, model making, and art
to kids at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center for five years,
and created interactive multimedia projects in Guadalupe for
two years before working in SLO County. She has had great
success transforming reluctant writers into excited ones.
Locher, Brian -
Brian Locher, Cuesta Colleges second year, head
cross-country & assistant track coach, has served as an
athletics coach both nationally and internationally since
2002. From ‘05-07’ Brian helped facilitate Cal Poly’s track
and cross-country programs as a graduate assistant coach.
Prior to his experiences at Poly, Locher served as an
assistant coach in track and field at has alma matter, Chico
State. Brian’s first coaching experience took place while
working with the United States Olympic Committee as an
assistant track coach for the Guatemalan National Team.
Locher was also a lead cog for the USOC’s ‘Olympic Sports
Corps’, a sustainable athletics movement to improve sport in
Guatemala, modeled after the Peace Corps. A recent graduate
of Cal Poly State University, Brian received his Masters of
Science degree in Kinesiology, were he was employed as a
graduate associate, teaching physical education classes.
Locher’s pervious educational experiences also include four
years of study at Chico State University where he attaining
a Bachelors of Science degree in Recreation and
Administration. While studying at Chico, Brian worked with
the Boys & Girls Club as a summer camp counselor, as well as
overseas, in Naples Italy, as a summer camp, director of
sport programs, for Camp Adventure.
Lorenzen,
AnnE - AnnE Lorenzen has been an
Instructor for College for Kids since 2000. She
enjoys an inveterate enthusiasm for introducing children to critical
thinking in light of the myriad moral and ethical dilemmas in
contemporary American society. As coordinator for youth programs in San
Luis Obispo, and as the creator and presenter of a unique and practical
curriculum for critical thinking and successful argument,
AnnE brings years of working with children and
their families considering social, cultural, practical and philosophical
matters.
Lucio, Terra -
Terra graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo March
06 with a BS in Social Sciences and a Minor in Spanish. She
will enter into the Single Subject Teaching Credential
Program at Cal Poly in January 2008 which will enable her to
teach the Social Sciences at the High School and Junior High
levels. She plans on teaching for a while and then going
into a Masters in Fine Arts program with a goal of teaching
art at the undergraduate level. Terra loves teaching – she
taught swim lessons for three years and loved not just the
water or the children, but the actual teaching itself. This
is in part of what inspired her to be an aquatics
instructor. Terra is from San Diego and loves the outdoors;
surfing, running, hiking, backpacking, etc.

Maceri,
Domenico -
Domenico Maceri has a PhD from
the University of Santa
Barbara and currently teaches Italian at Allan Hancock
College, as well as Cuesta College
Community Programs for the College for Kids program.
McBride,
Rhonda - Rhonda
McBride is a former fashion designer who
has worked with many well-known manufacturers of active sportswear. Her
career has included designing collections for White Stag, Puma, and Hot
Chilly’s. She currently teaches Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration,
and Rendering and Rapid Visualization for Interior Design at Cuesta
College during both Fall and Spring Semesters.
Palandoken, Heather -
Heather Palandoken
has a B.A. in Liberal Studies, has two credentials (Multiple
Subjects and Special Education) and began
signing at the age of two, after becoming
hard of hearing. She has taught deaf and hard of hearing
children for thirteen years at the elementary level and has
taught at the college level since 2008. Heather is
currently teaching ASL at Templeton High School and is a
presenter for a program for teaching parents/caregivers ASL
to use with young children called Sign2Me.
Poland, Karen
-
Karen
Poland served two
years with the Peace Corps after graduating
from Humboldt State University. When finished with her service,
she
returned to the Central Coast and began working at Rancho El Chorro
Outdoor School in 2000.

Rhodes,
Larry -
Larry Rhodes
came to martial arts rather late in
life, beginning his study of Koei-Kan Karate-Do in 1995
while in his mid-forties. A pupil of Shihan Jack Sabat, he
earned his Ni-Dan (2nd-degree black belt) in 2005. He is
owner and chief instructor at Koei-Kan Karate-Do of San Luis
Obispo, with adult classes evenings and weekends; a women’s
self-defense program; and kids’ classes weekdays, which
teach basic karate skills, along with focus, respect, and
self-esteem, in a safe, fun environment.
Thoresen, Rob -
Rob Thoresen
has been a welding educator for the
last 14 years. Ten years were spent with high school
students, grades 9 - 12, at Paso Robles High School. During
the last four years, he has served as the full time Lead
Instructor for the Cuesta College Welding program. Rob is
an AWS Certified Welding Inspector and Certified Welding
Educator. He is a highly motivated teacher who enjoys
helping students succeed and acquire life long welding
skills that may serve as a spring board for a career or
rewarding hobby.
Wall, Colleen -
Colleen Wall holds a
Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and has been teaching
music in public schools for thirteen years. Before accepting
her current position as choral director at both Los Osos
Middle School and Morro Bay High School, Colleen taught
middle school choral music and music appreciation, in
Henderson, Nevada. In addition, she has been teaching voice
and piano privately for over 25 years. Originally from the
central valley, Colleen is grateful to be back in
California, and living here on the central coast.

Ward, Rachel -
Rachel Ward is originally from
Tehachapi California.
Growing up she was involved with soccer, dance, and
martial arts. In 2008 she moved to San Luis Obispo to attend
Cuesta College where she plans on getting her RN. She has
been life guarding and teaching swim lessons for almost five
years, and is now one of the managers at Cuesta's pool as
well as the 2010 supervisor of swim lessons. She
enjoys outdoors activities and loves kids.
Zanoli, Helen
Helen Zanoli graduated from Cal Poly
with a degree in Industrial Arts. She has been a small
business owner for over 25 years, specializing in interior
plant design and the design and construction of garden
furniture. Helen has been employed at Cuesta College for the
last four years as a woodworking instructor. She also
teaches woodworking to students involved in 4H.
